Hurricane Update Sunday 9-10-17

Hurricane Irma Update from Jay Solomon, CEOSunday, Sept. 10Good morning friends and family from still the sunshine state! As Sarasota and Manatee county prepares for the approaching storm to make landfall this afternoon, I wanted to provide you all an update directly from campus. As alwaysplease remember that the safety of our residents and our staff is our highest priority. As of 11:30 AMEST our campus is still functioning normally and with a strong sense of camaraderie throughout. Our facility still has power, running water, and cellular service. This morning our entire community came together for breakfast and a morning of music and programming. As a community, we are here, strong and confident in our safety.A few important updates to keep in mind:

  • As of 8:00 AM EST we have brought in staff in every department to assist in not only the continuous function of the building but to help with meals, programming, and additional needs. In addition, our communications staff will be working both here on campus and remotely to keep everyone updated with new information.
  • In the event that we lose power, our backup generators will kick into gear and return power up to 80%. Please note that our emergency pull cords are connected internally to our fire safety system, a loss of power will not affect the emergency pull cords in resident apartments and common areas.
  • Included in our staff present are medical professionals who are present in case of emergency.

Lastly, I wanted to make you all aware of a recent development within Manatee County. We have heard this morning that city officials have asked for a 24-hour curfew starting this afternoon at 3:00 PM EST until tomorrow at 3:00 PM EST. This is specifically to allow emergency equipment to move throughout the county and clear roads, restore electricity, and complete other necessary preparations. This curfew will not have a negative impact on our continued ability to care for those sheltered on our campus.Again, I want to stress that we are confident in the safety and security of our residents and staff taking shelter on our campus. Please continue to check our website and Facebook page for consistent updates. To all of our friends and family in Florida please stay safe.Thank you for entrusting us with the safety of your loved ones and for keeping us all in your thoughts.Jay Solomon, CEO
