Since 1998, Google has become our go-to reference library. We use it for everything—from finding new interests to finding a new restaurant to finding people we've lost touch with. Few of us are aware of all the search features Google has to offer. There are many techniques for locating the information we're looking for. Here are a few tips and tricks:Define what you're looking forIf you're looking for photos of a person, place, or object, include the word "images" in your search. For example, if you're looking for a picture of Clint Eastwood, type in Clint Eastwood images in the search bar.Use quotes to find exactly what you wantNarrow down your search by using quotes to get exactly what you are looking for. For instance, if you are searching for rain boots in your size, narrow your search down by including your shoe size in the search.Consider the source of information you wantYou will get more legitimate search results if you exclude .com from your searches. Instead, use .org or .edu, or .gov at the end of your search. For instance, if you search for corrective lens surgery add .org or .gov and you will get legitimate research sites.Phrase your search specificallyGoogle uses SEO, or search engine optimization, to search phrases that most people are likely to search for. This can be tricky because you have to think of how the information you're looking for will be phrased. Let's say you are searching for a dentist, if you type in something general like "dentist" you'll get too many sites that may have nothing you are looking for, but if you search for something more specific like "dental veneers" your search results will narrow down to what you are looking for.Look past the first pageAll kinds of great information can be buried on page 2 or even page 3. Companies pay for placement at the top of Google results, if you look further, you'll find great information that didn't pay to come out on top.Whatever it is you're searching for, don't give up! The more variables you try the more likely you'll find what you're looking for.
